How to Apply for Thailand Pass: A Step-by-Step Guide

Table of Contents

Complete the application to get a Thailand Pass without all the stress by following this step-by-step guide that details exactly how to register for Thailand Pass simply and successfully.

In order to enter Thailand, either as a tourist or as a returning resident, it is a requirement to have an approved Thailand Pass before arrival into the country.

We provide complete Thailand Pass support on all Tripseed bookings and our current average approval time ranges between 7 – 14 days. Net industry rates are available for all Travel Agents and Tour Operators.

For safety’s sake, however, we recommend following the government advice and allowing up to 7 days between application and approval. The Thailand Pass application may be submitted up to 60 days prior to travel.

To see the current travel restrictions for Thailand or understand more about the different channels of entry, please see our comprehensive guide to the latest Thailand Travel Advice and join our affiliated Facebook group to ask any questions.

What is Thailand Pass?

Introduced on November 1st, 2021, the Thailand Pass system replaced the previously required Certificate of Entry (COE).

The new system streamlines the required arrival documentation and aims to minimise the risk of Covid-19 infections from entering the country, as well as ensure travellers have adequate health insurance in the event they test positive for Covid-19 whilst in Thailand.

It is a requirement for all travellers arriving by air into Thailand, irrespective of if they are entering through the Test & Go (Quarantine Exempt) program, the updated Sandbox program or Alternative Quarantine (AQ).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that travellers planning to come to Thailand apply for Thailand Pass at least 7 days prior to travel in order to allow time for all documents to be processed.

Travellers can register for Thailand Pass at tp.consular.go.th.

What are the Thailand Pass Requirements?

To get approved for a Thailand Pass and obtain the necessary QR code, it is important to meet a few requirements first.  In general, travellers are required to have a valid passport, visa (if required), a minimum of 20,000 USD health insurance coverage that includes cover for Covid-19, a confirmed and pre-paid hotel booking, pre-paid airport transfers, a pre-paid PCR test for Day 1 and ATK test for Day 5.

All travellers must be fully vaccinated for both the Test and Go channel of entry and the updated Sandbox model. Non-vaccinated travellers may only enter via the 10-day Alternative Quarantine process.

Vaccines recognised by Thailand for applying for Thailand Pass include; CoronaVac (Sinovac), AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, COVILO (Sinopharm, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), Moderna, and Sputnik V.

Travellers that have previously been infected with Covid-19, are considered fully vaccinated if they have also received a single dose of an approved vaccine and have a recovery certificate signed by a medical professional.

The details of these requirements differ slightly depending on your channel of entry so do take care which channel of entry you are applying for when following the steps below.

Once you have all of your documentation prepared according to step 1 above, visit https://tp.consular.go.th to begin your registration on the Thailand Pass application system.

On the opening screen, you will need to select whether you are Thai National or Non-Thai National to proceed. Our instructions will be for Non-Thai Nationals, but the application process is essentially the same.

Thailand Pass Registration System Homepage

The next page will ask you to select your channel of entry. Here, we advise you to consider your planned trip. Usually, Test & Go will be the right way forward; if you wish to travel around Thailand freely, travel outside of the sandbox areas, or want to stay in hotels that are not SHA Extra Plus (SHA++) certified during your first 7 days. SHA Extra Plus bookings are only required on Day 1 with this route of entry.

Thailand Pass Registration System Page 1

You will next be asked to accept the compliance rules of the Thailand Pass scheme before proceeding to enter the details of your trip.

Once accepted, you will move onto the Purpose of Arrival page.

  1. For general holiday and tourism purposes, select ‘Travel’ as your Purpose of Arrival.
  2. Choose your initial country of departure (ignore any transit en route for this field).
  3. Select your arrival airport. (Ensure that any domestic transit from Bangkok to Samui or Phuket is booked as a single ticket and using the official sealed routes only. No other domestic transit flights are permitted.).
  4. Enter your arrival flight number. (If you do have a transit en route and arrive to Thailand on a connecting flight, enter the connecting flight number. The one that will land in Thailand.)
  5. Enter your Date of Arrival and Date of Departure. (Date of departure will not show if you have selected ‘Returning to Thailand’ as your purpose of arrival).
Accept the consent for data processing that will appear as you continue, and proceed to the Personal Information page.

Step 3: Complete Your Personal Information

The first few steps here are very straightforward. Just be mindful that this page asks for the information of any children/dependants travelling with you, including their vaccination history if applicable. This is ONLY for the vaccination history of the children/dependants, not your own proof of vaccination at this stage.

  1. Enter your personal details exactly as they appear on your passport.
  2. Upload the jpeg file of your passport information page. (The jpeg should show the passport as per the instructions in the image below. It must be an image of only the single information page, and clearly readable).
  3. (Optional) Select ‘Add more’ if you are travelling with any dependant children.
If you are not travelling with any dependant children, you may safely skip ahead to Step 4: Complete Your Vaccination History
Thailand Pass Registration System Personal Information Page

Optional Step: Complete information for dependant children

If you are travelling with children, follow the same steps as above for your own information and add their personal information exactly as it appears on their passport, also uploading the jpeg of their passport information page.

  1. If applicable, complete the Covid-19 vaccination history for your child.
    • Children that are 11 years old or younger prior to departure are exempt from any vaccination requirement.
    • Children 12-17 years old and travelling with parents are also exempt from vaccination requirements.
    • Children 12-17 years old and NOT travelling with parents must have proof of at least one dose of an approved vaccine.
    • Everyone over 18 years old must be fully vaccinated.
  2. If your child is required to show proof of vaccination, you must upload a jpeg of their vaccine certificate here.
  3. Enter your Childs insurance policy number and upload a jpeg of the child’s insurance policy. (Insurance coverage should be clearly displayed on a ONE PAGE cover sheet from your insurance provider. It must clearly show a minimum of 20,000 USD coverage which includes cover for Covid-19, the full name of the person insured and the policy number.

Step 4: Complete Your Vaccination History

Next, it is time to upload your vaccination history. At this step, we strongly recommend you to have individual jpegs of the QR codes for each vaccine dose prepared from the full digital QR certificate if applicable. This will significantly speed up your application approval.

  1. (Optional) If you have recovered from Covid-19 and have a covid recovery document signed by a medical professional, it should be uploaded first.
    • In the ‘Start Treatment’ field, enter the date you first tested positive for Covid-19.
    • In the ‘To’ field, enter the date your immunity began according to your medical letter.
  2. For your vaccine doses, ensure you upload the correct jpegs and QR codes that correspond to the respective dose and select the correct name of the vaccine (e.g. ‘Comirnaty’ is the official name of Pfizer). If you have 2 doses on one certificate page, just upload the same certificate page for both doses, but add the individual QR code for each dose separately.
  3. (Optional) Add your third booster dose the same way if applicable.

Once done, hit next to move on to your contact and accommodation details.

  2. Choose the province that your hotel is in. (Note, for those booked into one of the Suvarnabhumi Airport hotels – many of these are in Samut Prakan province, not Bangkok)
  3. Select the name of your hotel, and the address will be auto-populated from your hotel selection.
  4. Enter your Booking ID or confirmation number provided by your hotel or travel supplier on your reservation.
  5. Enter your check-in and check-out dates.
  6. Enter your RT-PCR Test receipt number. (This must also show on your booking confirmation document which is why we recommend booking with a hotel or travel provider that will arrange this for you. Alternatively, you must arrange these by yourself at https://www.thailandpsas.com/ and have your hotel add the details to their booking confirmation document.
  7. Upload the jpeg copy of your booking confirmation from the hotel. (This should display all travellers full names individually, the booking reference number, the dates of stay, the PCR test details for each traveller and your SHA+ airport transfer details for Day 1, as well as be officially marked as fully-paid).
    • Test & Go travellers need to upload the details of both their day 1 bookings.
    • Sandbox Travellers need to upload their bookings for days 1 through 7, but this may be spread across up to 3 sandbox hotels.
    • Enter your permanent overseas address and phone number, as well as emergency contact details before moving on to the final step. You’re almost there!

Step 5: Upload Your Medical Insurance and Any Additional Documents

You’re finally on the home straight! This final step requires you to upload your medical insurance documentation.

  2. Confirm your coverage exceeds 20,000 USD and covers the duration of your trip.
  3. Enter the date that your coverage begins.
  4. Upload the jpeg of the single page cover sheet with all of the required information.

Here, you also need to enter any other countries you have been to in the 14 days prior to your arrival. This does not include your home country, but you should declare any countries you may have transited through on your way to Thailand.

Finally, you can upload any of the original PDF versions of the files that you have as supporting documents.

Thailand Travel Advice: Everything You Need To Know

Table of Contents

Our comprehensive guide covering the latest Thailand travel advice provides all the details you need to know when planning a holiday to Thailand.

Since the grip of the pandemic shook the travel industry to its very foundations in 2020, we’ve all been clamouring for the time when we can help travellers begin exploring the world again.

Thailand has since taken its first steps towards a wider reopening. Initially, with its Phuket Sandbox model and 7+7 extension, and now with the reopening of the kingdom since November 1st, without requiring quarantine for vaccinated travellers from certain countries and territories which the Thai government has classified as ‘low risk’.

Current Situation

Thailand, like much of Southeast Asia, did an admirable job in 2020 at staving off the early waves of the pandemic as it ripped across the world.

2021, however, saw more transmissible variants of Covid-19, such as the Delta variant, becoming widespread in the country and causing record numbers of positive cases.

To date, Thailand has had a reported total of Country ‘Thailand’ is invalid. confirmed cases within the country, and there have been Country ‘Thailand’ is invalid. deaths. After early failings in the vaccination rollout across the kingdom, significant progress has been made in recent weeks.

*Data is provided from John Hopkins University and may be slightly delayed.

As a result of the current situation, the government implemented provincial zoning to designate a variety of restrictions within the country.

The status of each province as of January 24th, 2022, can be seen below:

Map of Thailand displaying the covid-19 status by province
Map of Thailand provincial zoning for COVID-19 travel restrictions as of January 24th, 2022.

The internal restrictions, combined with the improvement of the vaccination drive has allowed Thailand to reach a point where the government are comfortable in trying to restart tourism to the kingdom.

Thailand’s tourism industry normally accounts for around 12% of the country’s GDP, so getting things up and running again has become a priority for the nation. While the pandemic continues to ravage jobs and businesses that are entirely reliant on international travel.

Thailand Reopening: Is Thailand Open to Tourists?

At this time, there are three official channels of entry with which people can enter the country.

  • Exemption from Quarantine (Test and Go)
  • Sandbox Programme
  • Alternative Quarantine

It should be noted that changes have regularly been announced with no prior warning during the course of the pandemic, and reversals in policy have also been commonplace. Always check for the latest Thailand travel advice with your nearest Thai Embassy before booking travel for yourself or advising your travellers.

Exemption from Quarantine (Test and Go)

The ‘Exemption from Quarantine (Test and Go) ‘ channel of entry is Thailand’s broadest step by far to reopen the country and allow people to travel again.

From which countries can vaccinated travellers enter Thailand?

Thailand has now opened to all countries and territories around the world for vaccinated travellers. Unvaccinated travellers may travel to Thailand but they are required to undergo a 10-day quarantine on arrival.

Quarantine Exemption (Test and Go) Travel Requirements

In order for travellers to be eligible to enter via the Test and Go system, a number of requirements must be met.

  • All travellers must stay in an SHA Extra Plus (SHA++) certified hotel on Day 1 and Day 5 to undergo PCR tests and await negative results. Outside of this, travellers are free to explore the country.
  • All travellers entering through the Test and Go program must be fully vaccinated for at least 14 days before travelling.
  • All travellers must upload a reservation confirmation at an approved SHA++ hotel for the night of their arrival and Day 5.
  • All foreign travellers must have medical insurance that covers Covid-19, with a minimum coverage of 50,000 USD.
  • All travellers must have a negative RT-PCR test result issued within 72 hours before departure.

Sandbox Program

If the ‘Test and Go’ program is not suitable. An alternative channel of entry is via the updated sandbox program. The sandbox program allows travellers to travel anywhere around the sandbox regions, but they must stay 7 consecutive days in SHA++ hotels and must not leave the sandbox area. They may change hotel up to 3 times.

Where can I travel to inside of the Blue Zone?

  1. Krabi
  2. Chon Buri (Banglamung, Pattaya, Si Racha, Ko Si Chang, and Sattahip – Na Jomtien and Bang Sarey)
  3. Trat (Ko Chang)
  4. Phang-Nga
  5. Phuket
  6. Surat Thani (Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, and Ko Tao)

Blue Zone Sandbox Travel Requirements

To access the Blue Zone and the Sandbox Program, travellers may arrive from any country around the world but they must enter Thailand by air.

  • The traveller must have been fully vaccinated with an approved vaccine at least 14 days prior to travelling, and show a Certificate of Vaccination. (Travellers previously infected with Covid-19 within 3 months of the travel date must have received one dose of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before travel).
  • Travellers under 18 years of age, and travelling with parents or guardians, are exempt from the vaccination requirement.
  • All foreign travellers must have medical insurance that covers Covid-19, with a minimum coverage of 50,000 USD.
  • All travellers must have a negative RT-PCR test result issued within 72 hours before departure.
  • All travellers must have a confirmed pre-payment of SHA++ accommodation for the first 7 nights, a pre-paid RT-PCR test to be performed on arrival, and a second PCR on Day 5.
Once the 7-night stay has been completed, Sandbox travellers are free to travel anywhere else in Thailand.

Alternative Quarantine

The Alternative Quarantine channel of entry is the only route that unvaccinated travellers may consider if they wish to enter Thailand. It is open to all countries like the sandbox, but is designed with a longer quarantine period and greater restrictions an attempt to avoid importing more of the virus into the country.

Travellers entering via Alternative Quarantine must stay at a designated Alternative Quarantine Hotel for 10 days.

AQ travellers must show proof of insurance that covers Covid-19 and has a minimum of 50,000 USD coverage.

Two RT-PCR tests are required; one on arrival, and one on day 8 or 9 of their stay. This is in addition to the RT-PCR required to be taken within 72 hours before travelling to Thailand.

Thailand Pass: What you need to know

Introduced on November 1st, 2021, Thailand Pass is the new online system for applying for entry into the country, replacing the previously required Certificate of Entry (COE).

It is a requirement for all travellers arriving by air into Thailand, irrespective of if they are entering through the Quarantine Exempt (Test and Go) program, the updated ‘Blue Zone’ Sandbox program or alternative quarantine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommend that travellers planning to come to Thailand apply for Thailand Pass at least 7 days prior to travel in order to allow time for all documents to be processed.

Travellers can register for Thailand Pass at tp.consular.go.th.

Check out our full step-by-step guide to applying for Thailand Pass.

Can I travel to Thailand from the UK?

Travelling to Thailand from the UK is completely possible. Vaccinated travellers may take advantage of the Quarantine Exempt (Test and Go) Program to enter without quarantine and explore the country.

As well as ensuring they have followed the pre-travel requirements for entering Thailand, UK travellers will need to keep a few requirements in mind when returning to the UK.

Before travelling to England – fully vaccinated

Before you travel to England – not fully vaccinated

Before you travel to England you must:

On Arrival in England

  • Fully vaccinated travellers in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland may now opt to take a lateral flow test, instead of the more expensive PCR test, on or before day two of arrival.
  • Unvaccinated travellers must take PCR tests on or before day two of arrival, and on day 8 of arrival.
Important Note: While the UK do not require a PCR test before travel, some airlines do. This can be required to be done within 48 hours prior to departure regardless of vaccination status, and rules vary by airline. Always check with the airline prior to travel.

Can I travel to Thailand from Germany?

Travelling to Thailand from Germany is now much easier since the new channels of entry launched on November 1st. With Germany being on Thailand’s list of ‘low-risk’ countries, vaccinated German travellers may now visit Thailand under the ‘Test and Go’ program without quarantine.

As Thailand has been considered a ‘High-Risk Area’ by the Robert Koch Institute since August 8th 2021, travellers may wish to consider the requirements of re-entering Germany following their trip.

Travellers must complete a digital procedure before arriving in Germany which can be done online at https://www.einreiseanmeldung.de/#/ and confirmation must be to hand when travelling, either in PDF digital format or printed out on paper.

There is also a requirement to travel home or to other arranged accommodation directly from the airport and isolate for 10 days.

Travellers can end this quarantine early by either; submitting proof of vaccination or recovery from Covid-19 at www.einreiseanmeldung.de, or by submitting proof of a negative test result. The home quarantine can then be ended from the time the proof is submitted.

Recognised vaccines by the Paul-Erlich Institut in Germany include; Comirnaty (Pfizer), Janssen, Spikevax (Moderna), and Vaxzevria (Astra-Zeneca).

Children under 12 years of age who are entering Germany from a high-risk country, may end quarantine automatically after 5 days without submitting proof of a negative test result.

Tripseed joins ‘Tourism Declares’ in support of industry action on climate change https://www.tripseed.com/tripseed-joins-tourism-declares/ Mon, 01 Nov 2021 02:00:39 +0000 https://tripseed.wpengine.com/?p=470 The world is in the midst of a climate emergency, with global emissions still rising at a faster pace than ever, and global warming causing ever more damage to our planet. This affects all of us, and we must work together to avoid irreversible damage.

At Tripseed, this is something we care about deeply, and as a result, we have proudly signed up to Tourism Declares, an initiative that supports tourism businesses, organisations, and individuals in declaring a climate emergency and taking purposeful action to reduce their carbon emissions as per the advice from The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to cut global carbon emissions to 55% below 2017 levels by 2030.

Like all signatories, we have committed to the following five actions:

  1. Develop a ‘Climate Emergency Plan’ within the next 12 months, which sets out our intentions to reduce carbon emissions over the next decade.
  2. Share an initial public declaration of our ‘Climate Emergency Plan’, and update on progress each year.
  3. Accept current IPCC advice stating the need to cut global carbon emissions to 55% below 2017 levels by 2030 in order to keep the planet within 1.5 degrees of warming. We’ll ensure our ‘Climate Emergency Plan’ represents actions designed to achieve this as a minimum, through delivering transparent, measurable and increasing reductions in the total carbon emissions per customer arising from our operations and the travel services sold by us.
  4. Encourage our suppliers and partners to make the same declaration; sharing best practice amongst peers; and actively participate in the Tourism Declares community
  5. Advocate for change. We recognise the need for systemic change across the industry to accelerate a just transition towards carbon-free tourism.

Enabling more environmentally-friendly travel options, and developing initiatives that help to regenerate our planet, have been at the forefront of our conversations for what Tripseed is since the very beginning.

We are actively working on new environmental programs to complement our initiatives of planting a tree for every traveller and our unique Elephant poo poo plant, and we will be releasing details of these as soon as we are ready.

We can’t wait to show you more and invite you to join us in declaring a climate emergency by choosing Tripseed as your in-destination partner.
